Step by step
How to import your reading library from a CSV file
Most reading trackers let you download your whole library as a CSV file. It's free and takes a few minutes. Here's how to get the file on a computer or on an iPhone, and how to bring it into Tomely.

Get your library as a CSV
- 1
Sign in on the website
Open your current reading app's website and sign in. The export is often missing from the phone app, so the website is the place to look.
- 2
Find the export
Look in the account settings or in your library tools for an option called Export, Import and export or Export library.
- 3
Export your library
Start the export. With a big library the file can take a few minutes to be ready.
- 4
Download the CSV
Download the file when it's ready and keep its name as it is.
- 5
Import it into Tomely
In Tomely, tap Bring your books, choose the app you're coming from and pick the file. You'll see how many books matched and how many are waiting in To review.
On iPhone or iPad
Open the website in Safari. If you only see the mobile site, tap the aA button in the address bar and choose Request Desktop Website, then follow the same steps. When you download the CSV, Safari saves it to the Downloads folder in the Files app, which is where Tomely's file picker will find it.

What's in the file
A library CSV has one row per book: title, author, ISBN, your rating, the shelf it's on (read, currently reading, to read and your own shelves), the date you added it and the date you read it, among other columns. Tomely uses those to rebuild your shelves, ratings and dates. Read status (did-not-finish included) and tags come over too; tags become shelves.
If something looks off
- The file isn't recognized: make sure you picked the CSV you downloaded, not a renamed or re-saved copy from a spreadsheet app.
- Books marked "date?": the file had a date Tomely couldn't read. Tap the book to set it.
- Duplicates: if the same book appears twice, Tomely skips the copy and tells you how many it skipped.
